Gracias por venir.

I'm Ricardo, a Product Designer & Design Leader with 10+ years of experience. I lead a Product Design team at EY in Copenhagen, where we simplify complex tax and law workflows. I am experienced in remote collaboration across time zones and cultures, and I work across the full product process: research, strategy, design, and release.

02 / About

Product Designer & Design Leader.

I like hard problems. Tax tools, highly regulated environments, geopolitics, the rules of Uno. Taking something that feels abstract and making it feel natural is what I enjoy the most. I have been very fortunate that it's been the thread through most of my career, even when the industries change.

Outside of work I dabble in photography, play a few string based instruments, & cook way too ambitiously. Lately I've been building the design ideas my code skills couldn't handle before. You can find me having coffee around Frederiksberg Have or rushing from this airport to the next

04 / Career

Trajectory.

The first computer we got at home came with a Linux distro pre-installed (Mandriva Linux, gone but never forgotten). At first, I was disappointed that running Age of Empires II was a no-go. Little did I know that the countless hours of fun I wound up spending customizing the distro's every nook and cranny would lead to a career in tech.

Later on, I was given the opportunity to be in charge of a non-profit's visuals: website, graphics for events, newsletters, brand. This work unexpectedly led to years of freelancing across Brazil, Colombia, the US, and Europe, and co-founding a design and marketing agency before I was done with college, which is still going strong (I sold my part in it a few years ago).

Since then the work has moved through watch design, edtech, tax and legal, among other different industries with wildly different problems and solutions. Lately, I have been running a product design team at EY. It has been really fulfilling to see my team develop, and to support them in becoming the best designers they can be, whatever that may mean to them as individuals.

05 / Method

Results-based approach.

I like to see the positive impact that design has on people and businesses. I work to deliver experiences that are impactful, efficient, and meaningful. For example, The Nordic compliance platform we built at EY helps accounting teams across Europe deliver complex accounting services to large-scale clients like Novo Nordisk and IKEA with 70% greater efficiency. That efficiency translates into a 20% higher profit margin per engagement, and it frees teams to take on new clients and offer new services.

I stay close people. At Famly, sometimes it meant spending days with nursery managers in Liverpool and Manchester, following them around while they kept an eye on 10 energized toddlers. At Ion it meant meeting people from all across the US who had a lot of thoughts to share about the tool, and finding out why so many still emailed their account manager for PDF reports instead of using the analytics in the product.
